ABOUT
The Global Institute of Finance, Technology, and Society (GIFTS) is a research institute advancing knowledge and practice across finance related industries, technology-driven economies, and societies in the digital age, with an emphasis on transformative forces such as Artificial Intelligence, digitization, and FinTech. Drawing faculty leadership from multiple colleges at NTU, including the Nanyang Business School and the College of Computing and Data Science, as well as scholars and thought leaders from around the world, GIFTS aims to provide a global platform for various interdisciplinary programs and collaborations. By blending deep expertise with cross-domain insight, GIFTS serves as a hub for pioneering emerging research, applied innovation, and forward-looking policy thinking — equipping leaders, regulators, researchers, practitioners, and innovators to navigate and shape the intelligent, digital finance sector, digital economy, and social fabric of tomorrow.
In addition to fostering universal academic freedom and creativity for pioneering research in interdisciplinary areas, GIFTS emphasizes strategic alignments with the development objectives, society-driven programs, and market-driven innovation of the university, the region, and the world. Strategic alignment here means GIFTS aims to facilitate cross department, cross-school collaborations. Society-driven means the programs are to be guided by the national and regional development strategies, social welfare improvements, the need for training and cultivating future talent, and policy relevance in ensuring security and market stability in the digital era. Market-driven means research innovations should strive for practical relevance, industry integration, engagement with the financial sector, and tangible contributions to the economic ecosystems, be it regional or national, or international.
